Vegetation Management
About Vegetation Management
Invasive species and unwanted vegetation is a worldwide problem requiring constant innovation and adaptation
Invasive species and unwanted vegetation is a worldwide problem requiring constant innovation and adaptation. Spurred on by nature and neglect uncontrolled vegetation can cause ecological, environmental and economical damage.
Proper management of vegetation is key to ensuring that biodiversity is protected and damage to infrastructure avoided.
Over the past 25 years, we have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in the application of herbicides and removal of unwanted vegetation.
Learning from the past and constantly looking ahead, we have designed, built and implemented highly advanced specialised equipment in Africa for Africa.
Our unique application solutions enable us to ensure that herbicides are used to their maximum effect, keeping our impact on the environment to a minimum.
Chemical Control Of Vegetation On Railway Lines
We are the market leaders in the On-Track Application of herbicides to control vegetation in Southern Africa. We have two purpose-built Spray Trains and two Road-Rail Vehicles for the application of herbicides. Vegetation Control on Railway Lines is critical to protect the infrastructure and right of way.
Chemical Control Of Vegetation On Railway Yard
Overgrown Vegetation on Railway Yards can not only interfere with infrastructure but creates a fire and safety hazard. All our operators are qualified and experienced in the application of herbicides to treat existing growth and also prevent any growth in the future.
Manual Control of Vegetation
Our Services include:
Cutting and trimming of trees under high voltage power lines.
Cutting and removal of unwanted, invaders and problematic vegetation.
Bush and scrub clearing
Tree Felling
Our Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Advantages of vegetation control with Herbicides?
With herbicide application, large areas can be covered in a short period. Especially using a spray train. The herbicide also provides long-term control which yields a considerable cost saving.
Disadvantages of vegetation control with Herbicides?
The high initial cost of application as well as herbicide resistance in plants if the same compound of herbicide is used repeatedly.
Why the need to control vegetation on railway lines?
A railway line is built on a structure called a ballast. The purpose of the ballast is to support the track structure and drain moisture. Vegetation roots will trap and hold moisture around the footings of the rail bed. When a train passes over the wet portion of the railbed it causes hydraulic pumping of the wet grade beneath the ballast, this causes a pothole to form below the ballast line, which causes the track structure to move vertically on one rail or the other.
Too much of that will cause a lift to occur between the rail car wheel and the top of the rail. Lift in a rail car can cause derailments which can result in serious damage to infrastructure and injury or death to the train operators.
Who governs the application of herbicides in South Africa?
All persons applying herbicides in a business capacity need to be registered Pest Control Officers in Industrial Weed Control under the Fertilisers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies, and Stock Remedies Act 36 of 1947.
